A Really Easy Way to Get Dish Scrubbers Clean!

Do you use one of those netting type of dish scrubbers to clean your dishes? Here's an easy tip for getting the scrubber clean:

Next time you're getting ready to run the dishwasher, just put your scrubber in on the top rack and make sure it's stuck well so that it can't slip down and fall below. That's it! Now run your dishes like normal, and when you pull out your scrubber, it will be clean and sanitized!

On the topic of clean dishes, I have a quick question for you:

If you have a large family, how many sets of dishes and silverware do you have on hand? I came to the realization this week that I will either need to purchase extra silverware (and dishware) in another year or two, or start washing all the dishes by hand. I never thought that would be necessary as we always had more than enough plates when the kids were babies. It's amazing how quickly we go through forks and plates now that the kids started using "grown-up" dishes!

  1. I do most of my dishes by hand, anyway, but for a family of three, that makes more sense. I never thought about the number of dishes that would be necessary for a larger family!

  2. I have a small Family right now, Hope to have at least 2 more but already I need more silverware always seems to not be enough forks and spoons!

  3. Right now it's only my husband and I but we have an 8 person normal dinnerware set and an 8 person "nice" dinnerware set, for special occasions, like holidays and the like.

However, we go through dishes quite a bit on our own... so I'm sure we'll be getting more as the little man gets older and starts using "big people" dishes.

  4. We only have four people in our house, but we seem to be ok with the number of dishes. We have about 8 big dinner plates, about 12 or so smaller plates, 12 or so bowls, and oodles of utensils.

  5. I think my dishwasher gets hungry and eats all my forks. Because honestly, they keep dissappearing! :)

  6. Great idea!

BTW, I buy my extra dishes and silverware from ebay. That way i don't have to purchase entirely new sets. The dishes and silverware we have is what my husband had before we met (15 years ago)!

  7. I'd like to get myself a house gnome, a la Harry Potter, to do dishes (and maybe some laundry) while I sleep.

  8. There are 5 of us...We have a serving for 8(ceramic) that my husband & I use - but the kids have their own set of 6 plastic (bowls, plates, salad plates) They are like Tupperware and I think we just got them in the dollar section of the grocery store. Unless we are sitting down for dinner, we usually use the kids set as well! We fly through the silverware, so I bought the kids a plastic set (that matches) at Ikea for a couple dollars)

  9. We don't let the kids eat off of our "adult plates and bowls" just because they're not careful enough with them. We have a bunch of random plastic plates and bowls that they use. Our dishwasher is always full by the end of the day, sometimes I have to leave dishes in the sink for the next day!

  10. There are only five of us. Our problem is - we have more dishes, flatware, etc. than we need, so we end up with lots used and lots to wash because we seldom run out. Gotta do someting about that. :)

    Thanks for your organizational tips.

  13. Hey girl! With 5 of us, I run the dishwasher a lot! I have more than enough silverware, just not enough of the bowls that the kids like to eat from. Tagged you on my blog today! Hope you are having a smooth pregnancy so far =0)

  14. Even with my tiny little family silverware disappears like it's going out of style. It's all in the scraping of the plates and in the trash they go!

Hope you are feeling ok :)
